How to achieve higher consciousness

Hmm well then. This guy explains it all pretty well. Except, how are you to function in our society when you stop trying to repress your sense of consciousness? What role can a person who is fully aware of the world around them play in this world?

Perhaps it is only uncomfortable to be conscious because the leaders of this society would rather everyone be sedated. It seems unfair then, to create a society in which repressed consciousness is valued and drugs are illegal.

This is probably one of the best arguments I've heard for being more conscious though, or embracing consciousness: that the society you're in doesn't want you to cause a problem, and so they don't want you to be awake. Which means you should definitely, definitely be awake, because pretty soon you will either be one of the leaders or happily situated outside the whole dog and pony show once and for all.
